John, our fiddle player, has been writing music for a number of years and there is in existence three books of his works produced in desktop mode, entitled “The Music of a Galloway Fiddle Player.” In March 2005, John Contacted Spartan Press, Strathmashie House, Laggan Bridge, Scottish Highlands, PH20 1BU, music publishers, to investigate the prospect of getting his works into publication and general circulation. After some discussion it was agreed to send them a copy of the books for their perusal. This resulted in a contract to publish Book One, and, depending on how it succeeded, the prospect of other books to follow. “The Music of a Galloway Fiddle Player” is written mainly in traditional celtic mode plus some beautiful airs and is I assure you very playable. If you fancy a go at some new and very local music from Galloway then why not give it a go.
